Working Together to Inspire the Future

In a dynamic collaboration aimed at enhancing STEM engagement in primary education, Kids Invent Stuff partnered with Ocado to bring to life an inventive idea from 5-year-old Dylan: a Robot Crocodile Lawn Mower. This initiative not only captivated young minds but also showcased the potential of integrating robotics and automation into everyday tasks, aligning with Ocado’s commitment to technological innovation.

The Invention: Robot Crocodile Lawn Mower

Dylan’s imaginative concept envisioned a crocodile-shaped robot capable of mowing the lawn and watering the garden autonomously. The Kids Invent Stuff team transformed this idea into reality by:

  • Utilizing a fiberglass crocodile base, affectionately named Maria Von Snap.
  • Integrating a remote-controlled electric lawnmower mechanism.
  • Installing a sprinkler system for garden watering.
  • Adding a motorized mouth and a distinctive pink brush Mohican.
  • Enhancing the design with playful features like fake eyelashes.

The entire build process and the final product were showcased in a YouTube video, providing an engaging visual narrative of the project’s development.

Impact and Reach

The YouTube video detailing the creation of the Robot Crocodile Lawn Mower garnered significant attention, reflecting the public’s interest in innovative STEM projects and the importance of early engagement in STEM education. The video has received over 11,000 views online by young people, their teachers, families and followers.

Ocado’s Role: Inspiring Future Innovators

Ocado’s involvement in this project underscores its dedication to promoting robotics and automation among the next generation. By supporting initiatives that encourage young inventors, Ocado aims to:

  • Demonstrate the practical applications of automation in everyday life.
